Collaboration that strengthens Home Energy Rating
The Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) draws on a network of advisory committees and consultative groups to guide decision-making and maintain its credibility. These groups bring together expertise from government, industry, academia and the community, ensuring that policies and technical updates are informed by real-world experience and emerging research.
Advisory committees provide specialist input on technical methods, software development, data integrity and policy alignment. Consultative groups complement this by offering broader stakeholder perspectives, helping to identify opportunities, challenges and areas for improvement.
Together, these bodies ensure that NatHERS remains responsive, evidence-based and aligned with national energy and housing goals – balancing scientific rigour with practical insight to support continuous improvement.
NatHERS Technical Advisory Committee (TAC)
The TAC provides advice on technical matters affecting NatHERS software tools and the operation of NatHERS more broadly, including:
- NatHERS technical settings and assessment methods
- research opportunities and priorities to improve the functionality of NatHERS software tools
- current and emerging issues affecting the maintenance, development, and improvement of NatHERS software tools
- undertaking research tasks, addressing software modelling issues and reviewing research and technical papers
- Chenath engine updates and interface developments
- the technical merits of applications being reviewed for inclusion in NatHERS software tools.
The TAC generally considers matters out of session but may schedule meetings when necessary. The TAC may also set up sub working groups focusing on specific technical matters and interested members can nominate to be involved.
For more information, including how to apply, see Technical Advisory Committee.
NatHERS Stakeholder Consultative Group (SCG)
The SCG provides stakeholder and industry views on:
- implementation issues or risks that may affect the scheme and implementation of the NatHERS Strategic Plan
- opportunities for continual improvement in the delivery of NatHERS, particularly in relation to the engagement and participation of stakeholders and industry
- review of the NatHERS Strategic Plan and development of future plans
- other matters as requested by the NatHERS Administrator.
The SCG has no executive power. It functions as a consultative body to assist the NatHERS Administrator and NatHERS Steering Committee in the management of the Scheme.
The SCG endeavours to meet at least four times per year; members may also be asked to consider matters out of session when required.
For more information, including how to apply, see Stakeholder Consultative Group.
