Sharing your Home Energy Rating

Helping others see the value of your home’s energy efficiency

Whether you’re selling or renting, sharing your home’s energy rating helps others understand the comfort, energy-efficiency and potential running costs of your home.

By communicating your rating clearly and accurately, you’re contributing to a more transparent housing market – one where energy efficient homes are recognised and rewarded.

Making energy ratings transparent and trusted

Australia’s housing market is moving toward greater transparency around energy efficiency and performance. The Home Energy Ratings Disclosure Framework is supporting this transition, by outlining how and when a home’s energy rating can be shared – helping buyers, renters, valuers, lenders, and governments access consistent information about a home’s energy efficiency and comfort.

Disclosure of a Home Energy Rating refers to when a rating is shared publicly with prospective buyers or renters in sale or lease advertising of a home.

Sharing or ‘disclosing’ a Home Energy Rating helps Australians compare properties more easily and supports them to make informed choices. It also helps build understanding about how house design and upgrades affect energy use.

Sharing energy ratings for apartments

As outlined in the Home Energy Ratings Disclosure Framework, apartment blocks with at least two floors and over 20 apartments, can involve sharing two complementary ratings:

Together, these ratings provide a complete picture of an apartment’s energy performance and running costs, covering both private and shared energy use.
