Implementing software protocol changes

Keeping tools aligned with evolving standards

NatHERS software protocols are periodically updated to reflect the latest research, policy changes and improvements to the underlying modelling framework. These updates ensure that all accredited tools produce consistent, scientifically robust results in line with the CSIRO benchmark tool AccuRate.

When protocol changes are introduced, software and tool providers receive detailed guidance outlining the new requirements, timelines for implementation and testing expectations. Updates may cover elements such as climate files, default material libraries or calculation methods.

Providers are expected to apply these changes within the agreed transition period and confirm compliance through validation testing. Early communication with the NatHERS Administrator (link to governance page) and CSIRO is encouraged to ensure smooth integration and continued accreditation.

By adopting updates promptly and transparently, software developers help maintain confidence in Home Energy Rating assessments and ensure all users – from assessors to households – benefit from the latest data, scientific research and associated standards.
