Funded training positions

Training to become a Home Energy Rating for existing homes assessor is now available.

In July 2026, a limited number of funded training places were made available for eligible students between July and December 2026.

Individuals who wish to undertake the training at their own expense may apply at any time.

Please enquire directly with NVITAFE and Transformed about the application process, including for information about recognition of prior learning.

You can read about training and accreditation requirements on our Become an Assessor page.

We will provide updates on any more funded training places, if offered, through our newsletter. You can subscribe to our newsletter and find current updates in News & Updates.

Free accreditation

Free accreditation and membership are currently available for anyone seeking accreditation as a Home Energy Rating assessor for existing homes. This funding aims to increase the number of assessors by reducing upfront costs for those entering the profession, while also supporting accredited assessors to stay in the industry.

Funding will continue until there are 150 accredited assessors in total, including current accredited assessors. Visit the Find an assessor page to see the current assessors accredited for Home Energy Rating for existing homes assessments.

Accreditation is managed by the Assessor Accreditation Service Provider (AASP), Design Matters National (DMN). The free places will be allocated in the order applications are received and accreditation is granted.

You can read about the training and accreditation requirements at Become an assessor, and in accreditation and policy documents in the Assessor toolkit.

We will provide updates on funded place availability, as required, and in response to demand and market conditions. More information will be shared about accreditation costs and future subsidies through our newsletter. You can subscribe to our newsletter and find current updates in News & Updates.

Note: Eligible Home Energy Rating (NatHERS) assessors for new homes will be able to be accredited for existing homes at no additional cost if they receive one of the places funded for free accreditation and membership. However, they will continue to pay membership fees to their chosen AAO for their accreditation as a new homes assessor (including with DMN).
